Mayor delivers State of the City report to seniors

Mayor Kleem delivers State of the City report for Seniors

Despite a sluggish economy, Berea’s finances are in good shape, Mayor Cyril Kleem told seniors at his annual State of the City luncheon at St. Paul Lutheran Church today.  Although the city’s revenue has declined, the balance in the general fund is $2.6 million – up from $1.1 million in 2007.

“Technically, we’re out of the recession,” the Mayor said. “But we haven’t had a lot to work with.” Revenues slipped from $17.2 million in 2007 to $16.5 million in 2014. The decline is due to a drop in construction permits and fees, lower income from property and income taxes, among other items.

The mayor outlined construction plans for 2015 and updated seniors on economic development, public safety and recreation, among other topics. Those plans include major renovations to the Coe Lake area and McKelvey Park this year and replacement of the West Center Street Bridge over the Rocky River in 2016.
