Regional Sewer District will Collect Storm Water Fees

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District is sending letters to all district residents announcing a storm water management program fee. The new fee will NOT be included in the quarterly water and sewer bills mailed by the City of Berea. These new billing statements will include only the NEORSD storm water bill. Berea water and sewer bills will remain unchanged including the NEORSD sanitary sewer charge currently administered through the City of Berea.  The new fees will be collected quarterly beginning Jan. 1, 2013. NEORSD says the fees will be used to reduce flooding, decrease erosion and improve water quality.

The storm water fee is calculated based on the amount of impervious surfaces, such as driveways and roofs, on each property. These hard surfaces prevent water from absorbing into the ground. The fee can be reduced if homeowners implement storm water control measures, such as rain barrels.

NEORSD is hosting a series of informational public meetings on the storm water management program. These meetings will be at NEORSD headquarters, McMonagle Building, 3900 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, on Jan. 14, Feb. 11, March 11, April 6, May 13 and June 10. All begin at 6 p.m.
