Message from Mayor Kleem

Simple Recycling begins on Friday, Feb. 26.

Simple Recycling is a company that will pick up at curbside “soft” recyclables such as clothing, linens and shoes. This is separate from the recycling program conducted by Republic Services.

Simple Recycling will send each household a pamphlet outlining what items are acceptable and how to recycle them. The list is extensive and ranges from men’s, women’s and children’s clothing to towels, shoes, toys, books and small household utensils and tools. They also will drop off green plastic bags in which to deposit any items and green tags to place on boxes of recyclables. These bags and boxes can be left at the curb every week on regular trash collection days.  A Simple Recycling truck will pick up the bags and boxes.

Taking part in Simple Recycling costs the city nothing. In fact, the city will earn 1 cent per pound for items collected. Simple Recycling will sell some of the items to companies that reuse the material. Some usable items will be sent to areas in need.

Textiles are 100 percent recyclable, yet 85 percent end up in landfills. This program gives residents another option to dispose of unwanted material instead of depositing them in the trash.

The point is – recycling is good for the environment plus it saves the city money in tipping fees, the costs of dumping waste in landfills.

For more information on Simple Recycling, visit or call (866) 835-5068. Simple Recycling is based in Solon.
