The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District is increasing its rates as of Jan. 1. The City of Berea has no control over these rates. The NEORSD rates are set by the NEORSD Board, which is made up of seven members appointed by the Cleveland Mayor, the Suburban Council of Governments and the Cuyahoga County Council.
The City of Berea includes the Sewer District rates on the quarterly Berea Water Department bills as a courtesy. Berea then forwards the NEORSD fees collected to the sewer district.
Berea residents will see the new rates reflected in their quarterly bills on a blended basis depending on the billing cycle. For example, customers with a billing date of Dec. 31, 2016, will see only the October, November and December 2016 rates. The 2017 rates will not be reflected.
Customers with a billing date of Jan. 31, 2017, will be billed at the November and December 2016 rates and for the January 2017 rate.
Customers with a billing date of Feb. 28, 2017, will be billed at the December 2016 rate and the January and February 2017 rates.
Customers with a billing date of March 31, 2017, will receive a bill reflecting the January, February and March 2017 rates.
A detailed explanation of the NEORSD rates and a chart comparing the new and old rates are in the January Berean.
