The Berea Fire Department proudly protects nearly 20,000 people living, working and visiting in an area of 5.9 square miles. We operate out of 1 station that protects a primarily residential area. Our department is a public department who members are full-time paid firefighters.
The Berea Fire Department would like to remind all residents that backyard fires used to burn yard waste, building material or trash is prohibited per the Ohio Fire Code adopted by the City of Berea.
A small recreational backyard type fire, normally found at a campground, is permitted. The location for any small recreational backyard fire shall not be closer than 15 feet to any structure or property line and have approved containment. Wood must be dry and seasoned. It should give off a minimum of smoke and odor.
Any small recreational fire shall be constantly attended by a competent, responsible person until the fire is extinguished. Extinguishment must be provided for using a garden hose, bucket of water or fire extinguisher.
Any fire that is objectionable or offensive due to smoke or odor is prohibited and will be extinguished by the Berea Fire Department.
